Charcoal for the Naughty AND Nice

With Christmas only a week away, we're finding it hard not to get consumed by the list of presents we have to buy. Luckily, online shopping continues to be a life-saver, and we're not just saying that because we're an online retailer too!

But back to weddings. We've noticed that the color gray continues to increase in popularity this year. It's quite interesting to us since gray is not exactly the first color that you would associate with a celebratory occasion. But it does give a nice subtle tone that is muted but still elegant. Brides are also balancing it out by pairing it with a bright color to lighten the mood. The most popular combination is gray and yellow, but we're also seeing it matched with pinks and purples.

Dessy has picked up on this trend and has expanded its Charcoal Gray and Marigold colors to their Stretch Charmeuse dresses for next season. They've also added Oyster, which is a lighter gray, to their Matte Satin color palette. We'll have those new swatches up on our site in a few weeks. A perennial favorite is also Landa's Lemon color which is available in Satin and Chiffon. Julie used Dessy's Style Board tool for some inspiration:

Does this mean we're official?

Joielle is now on facebook. Become a fan and stay updated on news, promotions, sales, and more. Notice the new widget on the right-hand side of our blog!

Facebook has become the standard forum of announcing milestones in your life. I can't be the only one who's found out about multiple pregnancies by seeing an ultra-sound picture show up in my news feed. And the term "it's not official until it's on facebook" is, may I dare say, a little over-used at this point pertaining to relationships. As friends, we wait in anticipation (even if we've already heard from them directly or through the grapevine) to flood people's walls with virtual congrats when they update their status from "In a Relationship" to "Engaged", or "Engaged" to "Married". Personally, I've always preferred a good old-fashioned phone call, but in our world of immediate gratification and overbooked schedules, I grudgingly admit that sometimes a sincere and excited facebook message is just the best way to go. But announcing something in real time? Style & Sensibility posted a video of a married couple taking it to a whole new level that I hope will never become the norm!

Busy Bees

Last night I had the pleasure of meeting some weddingbee bloggers at one of their "Manhattan meetups". It was a casual get together at Subtle Tea in Murray Hill, which I've never been to before, but it is a very cute place! Mrs. Bee, Mrs. Cherry Blossom, Mrs. Poppy, Mrs. Lovebird, and Mrs. Violet were all there to swap stories of married life and reflect on the good and the bad of their wedding experiences.

Julie and I have been weddingbee readers since 2006 when Julie started planning her wedding. We have always felt that it was an invaluable resource for us at a time when we had no married friends to rely on for prior experience. Weddingbee managed to make wedding planning and DIY projects seem fun! What really struck me about the bloggers besides the fact that they were all so different, was that many of them had interesting side projects, like being in an indie rock band or having an etsy store. Their personalities and endeavors really reflect the overall community at weddingbee. Diverse, but always supportive!

You know you love headbands, xoxo.

Julie and I will be the first to admit that we're not too old to revel in a good episode of Gossip Girl, and any fan of the show knows that headbands have been a definitive fashion element. But Blair isn't the only one who resurrected this trend. Headbands have become the new tiara in the bridal world. They are versatile for any hairstyle and use any width, multiple layers, cyrstals, ribbons, feathers, whatever makes your little heart content.

Keep it simple, like the thin headband that Fergie wore on her wedding day:

Or bling it all out like Alyssa Milano:

I was also channel surfing and came across an episode "My Big Fat Fabulous Wedding" on VH1, and Shae is wearing one that looks very similar to our crystal organza headband. Notice she ties it loosely, more like a halo on top of her head, which seems to be a popular look if you're leaving your hair down.

Personally, we love headbands, especially when it incorporates ribbon because it gives it a softer and more romantic look. We hope that the trend sticks around for a while!

Spring is in the air

The unseasonably mild weather hasn't been the only thing making us think warm, happy thoughts. This weekend we had a photo shoot for Dessy's Spring 2010 collection. We can't wait to add them to our site early next year. Here's a sneak peek!

To Market, to Market

We recently attended the WeddingChannel Couture Show bridal market in NYC showcasing designer lines for Spring 2010. There is definitely a continued return to old Hollywood glamour and the "Mad Men" era fashion of the 1950's and 60's. Lots of feathers, beading, boatnecks, and full skirts (with pockets!). Bright colors and prints are also in full swing, pushing away the gloomy cloud of this past year's economic downturn. We're ready to put those worries behind us and celebrate!

We were especially excited to see Dessy's spring line. Look for their new dresses to appear on our website this winter! In the meantime, here's a few of our products that would fit right into next year's trends.

To be or knot to be

The nervewrecking thing about public advertising is that now people will actually know we exist! Today we kicked off an ad campaign on theknot.com. Look for our button on the North/Central New Jersey page and find a special knot member discount!

And... we're live!

Welcome to Joielle. An idea that started as a half-joking, half-wistful idea of two best friends running a company has actually come to fruition. After both going through the time-consuming and challenging process of planning our own weddings, our goal is to create a site that is a useful resource not only for dresses and accessories, but all things wedding-related. We will be blogging about our products, special offers, trends in the industry, places we go, people we meet, and most importantly, ways to help our customers get through the often overwhelming experience of planning a wedding. Happy shopping!

A little about us:
Tammy: I love being an unofficial wedding consultant and human database of information to all my engaged friends, so starting up Joielle is a natural continuation of my interest in wedding planning. I have a Bachelor of Arts in English and Communications from the University of Pennsylvania and have worked in television and event production. I live in Hoboken, NJ with my husband and enjoy running along the waterfront and taking in the gorgeous NYC skyline.

Julie: Prior to Joielle, I was a developer and producer for Bloomingdales.com and I hold a B.S. and M.S. in Information Systems Management from Carnegie Mellon University. I now live in New York City and enjoy the great restaurants and parks with my husband and toddler. As a frequent wedding guest and participant, I've always loved receiving the invitation, and then seeing the decor, design and choice of venue - every little part is often a reflection of the unique aesthetic each couple brings to their wedding. With this in mind, we've decided to carry an edited selection of dresses and accessories that are classic, beautiful, and reasonably priced. I hope you can find something that speaks to your personal sense of style!
