Let's hear it for the boys

At weddings, let's be honest, it's all about the bride. The groom plays second fiddle, and the groomsmen? Aren't they just the guys that throw a good bachelor party and then show up half an hour before the ceremony to stand up there and look spiffy?

A lot of thought and effort gets put into choosing the perfect dress for your bridesmaids, but we can't forget about the boys! The Dessy Group sure hasn't. They have created made-to-order vests, ties and cravats to match the bridesmaids.

Menswear can be ordered in duchess satin to match satin, chiffon or georgette dresses, as well as all the other fabrics that Dessy carries, i.e. peau de soie, dupioni, silk shantung, etc... The color palette options at tuxedo rental places can be quite limiting and you have to pay extra for them anyway. Buying coordinating sets gives your bridal party a clean, uniform look, plus your groomsmen now have a necktie to keep!

Although product pages are not featured on our site, simply email us your order details (size, color, fabric) and we can place the order for you! For those of you who take advantage of our bridal party discount of 4 or more, the 10% would also apply to the menswear.

Not a bridesmaid dress… or is it?

Julie and I are busy at work preparing the Fall 2010 dresses for launch next month! Besides the new Cynthia Rowley line, there are a few new Alfred Sung and Dessy dresses, and Landa has some fun new styles as well. And the most exciting news of all? We've picked up the Lela Rose bridesmaid line! We are so happy to continue expanding our selection of unique and beautiful dresses that allow brides to express their personal style through their bridesmaid dress selections.

Speaking of unique and beautiful, while it's true that dresses on our site are marketed and sold as bridesmaid lines, our customers have also seen the potential in purchasing a dress for individual use, such as brides looking for something to wear to their bridal shower or rehearsal dinner.

Ordering a bridesmaid dress for another reason has plenty of other benefits as well. You can pick your own color and style rather than being limited by the trends and color palettes released in the current season. For example, as much as we love purple and gray, we've noticed that these colors are almost overwhelming lately in stores everywhere. And I'm sure you've personally experienced or seen someone wear a new dress, only to have someone else wearing the exact same thing! For you procrastinators out there, instead of waiting until the last minute to run into a department store and grab something off the rack (which Julie and I are often guilty of), why not start thinking now about what you can wear to your friend's late summer or fall wedding?

Here are some styles we think look great for any special occasion, and in our opinion, don't scream "bridesmaid dress!".

This dress is becoming a fast favorite as a bridesmaid dress selection, but we think it's also the perfect late summer dress for anyone. Versatile and simple, it can be worn to both dress-up occasions and more casual parties.

Universally flattering, everyone loves a fun and flirty halter dress. The ribbon racerback is a unique change from the usual strapless or spaghetti strap styles.

Bateau necklines will continue to be hot this fall when you'll appreciate covering your shoulders in chilly weather. (And it has pockets for your blackberry!)
