In the next few months, we will be expanding our site with some eye-popping jewelry, dramatic hair accessories, and of course the Spring 2011 dresses from our designers. Alfred Sung will be adding a softer color palette to supplement their current bright and bold selection. Lela Rose Bridesmaid has created new styles at an even more attractive price point which we hope will bring the designer's refined frocks within reach for all our brides to consider. And Landa Designs is heating things up in their mother of the bride line with trendy drop waist mermaid dresses, full-length tulip skirts, and an elegant one-shoulder gown.
Although we don't sell bridal gowns, we still love looking at the gorgeous dresses on display and couldn't help noticing that belts are making quite the statement. Chelsea Clinton's Vera Wang belt is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the variety of styles that can add unique sparkle, color, or floral elements to your wedding dress.

Belts can also be a separate after-thought purchase closer to the wedding day. Some brides who start out wanting a minimalist modern dress may later regret that there isn't enough wow factor as the belle of the ball. Or they still want a plain dress overall, but are looking for that one special detail to pop. Instead of being a "two-dress bride" (which happens more often than you think!), adding a belt is the perfect solution with minimal damage to your budget.

Do you like the trend of belts on wedding dresses? Yay or Nay? Leave your answer in a comment on our blog or facebook page, or re-tweet this post from @shopjoielle, and you'll be entered into our drawing for some free goodies we snagged at Market (including a Dessy pantone umbrella), as well as a year's magazine subscription to Martha Stewart Weddings. This contest will run through October 27th (next Wednesday). Two winners will be chosen through a random number generator.

I say Nay... for myself! Have seen it done on others and it looks great.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the belt trend going on right now. Chelsea Clinton's was AMAZING!!! If I could get one like that for my wedding I would. There are so many styles and a huge variety to choose from so I don't think it will get old any time soon.
ReplyDeleteI love it! My best friend has a simple dress but got a crystal belt and it really makes the dress look more amazing.
ReplyDeleteI think it can look amazing on the right dress! But you have to have the confidence to pull it off too!
ReplyDeleteWith the right dress, and the right figure, a belt can turn a wedding dress into something really special looking and unique!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the belts. Most women like definition to the waist line. They can be any thing from crisp and clean to a way to add some fun, like color.
ReplyDeleteIm following you on twitter.
ReplyDeleteand I retweeted. I hope that I win! Perhaps I will look for the announcement on twitter. If I win you can get me at @emilyhudspeth on twitter!
ReplyDeleteyes, we'll definitely also announce it on twitter so our followers or re-tweeters will know if they won!
ReplyDeleteyes! I love the belt detail. If my dress doesn't already have one incorporated I'll definitely be searching for one as an accessory.

I love the belts! I just purchased a dress with one and am excited to hear that it's a detail that's becoming popular as of late!

I have a very simple dress but I am accenting it with a crystal belt for the ceremony and a flower chiffon belt for the reception. It adds a little something extra to the gown. Love it!
ReplyDeleteI like the belts usually. I generally prefer more simple designs and the belt adds a certain flair and style :)
ReplyDeleteI love the belt detail!
ReplyDeleteI do love the belt trend as long as they are classic belts! I think ones with texture are really fun! Thanks! designergal66@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI think the belt really depends on the dress. I tried on a wedding dress where the belt accentuated the details in the dress without overpowering it. It looked like a different dress without the belt on! But I don't think a belt should be used all the time...sometimes a dress looks fine (or better) without it! jalaraz@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI think it can look gorgeous, but I decided that I wanted a plain sash to match the color of my dress instead of the beaded sash that came with it.
ReplyDeleteLove belts @ sashes on wedding dresses! Great way to define the waist and add a little extra something to your look!
ReplyDeleteA definite YAY for belts on wedding dresses! It could save brides money on getting the actual dress since it doesn't necessarily have to have all the glitz and glamour - just a great shape! The belt really defines a waist and makes you look tiny, too. ;)

i think it depends on the dress and the material! i'm loving the rhinestones on a simple material dress but on something like lace i'd prefer a more simple sash than a belt. =)

it depends...but i am liking the trend is growing on me the more i see it. =)
ReplyDeleteI like the trend. I think it gives more flexibility on dressing up/down a particular look.

I am in favor of the belt!
ReplyDeleteOne of my good friends had a belt on her dress, but for me I prefer no belt. :-)
ReplyDeleteYes, I want a belt with my dress. The can turn a dull gown into a WOW gown. What's fun about it is you can opt not to wear it during the ceremony but use it for the reception. Its so fun!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE It! I have been thinking about getting a little one!
ReplyDeletelove it!! belt all the way!
