Real Weddings: Crystal and Frank

Crystal and Frank were married this past September on a beautiful and bright sunny day. Having met Crystal before at a mutual friend's wedding, it was easy to see her fun and bubbly personality reflected throughout their day.

The ceremony and reception took place at the Key Bridge Marriott in Arlington, VA, which allowed for the city of Washington DC to serve as a dramatic backdrop for some great photo ops.

Crystal's bridesmaids wore After Six by Dessy's Style 6582, a one-shoulder organdy dress with a ribbon belt and deep skirt hem detail.

We loved their purple and white fondant wedding cake, fun and modern while maintaining a classic and simple look. And the purple color theme was even brought out in Crystal's heels and Frank's dress socks!

Thank you Crystal and Frank for sharing a glimpse of your special day and may sunshine and happiness follow you the rest of your lives together!

Pick of the Week: Bateau Duchess Satin Dress with Flower Detail

Chalk it up to the continued "Mad Men" obsession, or modern woman's desire to take back old-fashioned glamour, but bateau, also referred to as boatneck, dresses continue to sell like hotcakes!

One of our favorites in this style is Dessy Collection's 2780. This duchess satin dress has a cluster of rosettes at the waist, a full pleated skirt, and a sexy scoop back. We love that this dress really is versatile for all occasions. Customers have ordered this dress for their bridesmaids, as a rehearsal dinner dress, and even as a mother-of-the-bride dress.

And did we mention pockets! What more could you ask for?

Our "Pick of the Week" offers begin every Friday morning and run until the following Thursday 4pm EST. Use checkout code POTW for the 10% discount. Follow our blog, facebook page or twitter to get weekly alerts!

New Sizing for The Dessy Group

The Spring 2011 styles are almost here! There are plenty of new dresses for the Dessy Collection, After Six, Alfred Sung and Lela Rose that will go live in just a few days.

The Dessy Group has also made some modifications in their Sizing Guide. They've expanded the spectrum and added a size 00 and a size 30W. For those very petite ladies out there, we empathize with how much tailoring needs to be done for ready-to-wear clothing, not to mention bridalwear, so we hope this benefits you! They've also modified the hip measurement for size 28W in addition to adding size 30W so the lovely ladies on the other end of the spectrum have more options when deciding on sizes as well!

We've also added the corresponding sizes for the Dessy twist dress. There is a Short and Long version of the twist wrap dress and it now comes in even more colors. It's simply a must have for those spring break getaways and they ship in only 4 weeks, so make sure to order yours!

Pick of the Week: After Six Satin Cap Sleeved Dress

Today's pick of the week is After Six's Style 6552. This satin cap sleeved number is a big seller for bridal parties, but we think it works great as stand-alone dress too. Non-strapless styles continue to make a big comeback as fashion trends are focusing on a more vintage and demure look. And whether it's winter time, or summer time (when the AC is blasting), it's nice to have something to cover your shoulders!

This dress was also featured in one of our Real Wedding posts from Niki and Bill.

Our "Pick of the Week" offers begin every Friday morning and run until the following Thursday 4pm EST. Use checkout code POTW for the 10% discount. Follow our blog, facebook page or twitter to get weekly alerts!

Mixing and Matching

If you've watched the movie "27 Dresses", you know the longstanding joke that brides always think they've picked a dress that their bridesmaids can wear again, which never really happens. Okay, maybe it does happen sometimes (the three bridesmaid dresses hanging in my closet untouched would beg to differ).

But what if you were allowed to pick your own dress style, or even pick your own style AND color? While the bride's executive decision should never change, it helps that her choices are expanding, therefore giving her bridesmaids more choices too. Designers are taking into account body type and style preferences while still maintaining a consistent overall look. Dessy Group creates "sets" of dresses, where 3 or 4 styles clearly belong in the same design family, such as doing a strapless, a v-neck, and a halter version. And the whole Alfred Sung line is meant to be mixed and matched, which has been incredibly popular with our brides.

Of course there's nothing better than to show you what we're talking about! Laura posted a facebook fan photo of her and her bridal party dressed in shades of gray with adorable raspberry shoes. Her mom, to her right, was the matron of honor. How sweet is that?

And maid of honor Remy sent us a photo from her childhood best friend Lea's wedding. The girls wore a variety of Alfred Sung dresses in different styles and colors. The wedding was at Skytop Lodge on a gorgeous August day in the Pocono mountains. What a great idea to to have such vibrant color dresses set in the backdrop of an outdoor summer wedding.

We never get tired of getting photos from our customers and knowing that we were able to play a small part in someone's very special day, so keep them coming!

Pick of the Week: Dessy Short Twist Wrap Dress

There was a sudden 20 degree drop in weather in New York City this week, and even though I love the winter season, it immediately got me thinking about where I should plan on going for a tropical getaway. Prices can be pretty fantastic in the low travel months of January and February, when kids are back in school and the spring break rush hasn't begun. My trusty Travelzoo Top 20 listed a Riviera Maya resort (one of my favorite vacation spots), for only $105 a night, including meals and drinks!

It's also never too early to think about what to wear. Even though tropical resorts are pretty casual, it's still nice to get a little dressed up for the evenings. So today's pick of the week is Dessy's Short Twist Wrap Dress, the absolute perfect companion to a warm-weather getaway. The twist dress not only takes up very little space (i.e. no baggage check fees!), it also can be worn in so many different styles that it may be the only dress you'll need to bring! See Dessy's instructional video for some more ideas.

Dessy twist dresses have an approximately 4 week turnaround time for delivery. Orders placed from now until next Thursday December 9th will ship the week of January 3rd.

Our "Pick of the Week" offers begin every Friday morning and run until the following Thursday 4pm EST. Use checkout code POTW for the 10% discount. Follow our blog, facebook page or twitter to get weekly alerts!

'Tis the Season for Production Delays

As we enter December, it's fun to be swept up in the holiday festivities, but also hard not feel a sense of panic, i.e. the panic to buy things! For those who celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, or any other holiday with gift-giving involved, the countdown to checking everyone off your list has begun. Shopping aside, it's the opportunity to spend quality time and reflect on the year with family and friends, which also makes it a perfect time to have a festive wedding!

But there's another major holiday on the other side of the world, arguably bigger than Christmas or New Year's. Many of our designer's factories are located in Asia, where they celebrate Chinese New Year in early February. It's one of the few times in the year where people can travel far and wide to see their families, and all businesses completely shut down for 2 weeks!

Which brings us to the reason for this blog entry. To the best of our ability, our site provides real-time estimates for production times and shipping deliveries, and we want to call to your attention that starting mid-December, production times for all Dessy Group bridesmaid dresses will be lengthened to account for the February break. Regular orders will ship in 11-12 weeks, and Rush orders will ship in 9-10 weeks. There will be limited availability for Super Rush by special request.

The delays will be taken into account with accurate date estimates in the product page delivery options. Landa Designs and Malis Henderson will also experience some delays, but because their standard turnaround times are generally shorter, changes have not taken into effect yet. We will keep you informed as best we can, and feel free to check our Shipping & Delivery page for updates or contact us directly with any questions or concerns.
