Pick of the Week: After Six Cocktail Dress with Tiered Pencil Skirt

All the talk of tiers got me thinking that one of our lovely featured dresses should also be the pick of the week!

So we're going to go with After Six Style 6597, an eye-catching satin cocktail dress with asymmetrical tiers on a svelte pencil skirt. This dress would be the perfect choice for an evening event like a fundraiser gala or corporate cocktail party, and a friend's wedding of course! Order it in black or midnight, and you will always have that go-to dress in your closet that is stylish and balances the line of party and professional.

Our "Pick of the Week" offers begin every Friday morning and run until the following Thursday 4pm EST. Use checkout code POTW for the 10% discount. Follow our blog, facebook page or twitter to get weekly alerts!

Tiers Are Not Just On Cakes

Tiers, similar to ruffles, have been a steady force in recent fashion. Whether it's a full-on tiered dress or just the skirt, tiers bring out the little girl in all of us. Lea's streamlined cocktail dress and Michelle's two-piece look are the latest confirmation that we'll still be seeing a lot of this trend when spring arrives.

Plenty of bridesmaid dresses have capitalized on this fun and flirty style. After Six's Style 6597 has a slimming and more formal tiered pencil skirt.

We also came across this gorgeous wedding featured in Style Me Pretty and couldn't resist highlighting that the bridesmaids wore Style D463 by Alfred Sung! The bridesmaids modified the dress by removing the bottom tier while the Maid of Honor kept all three. We're not sure if that was a decision to lighten the skirt for petite frames or to distinguish the MOH, but either way, it worked great!

Pick of the Week: Dessy Collection's Blouson Chiffon Gown with Pleated Detail

Happy Friday, especially to you lucky folks who have a long weekend for President's Day!

Today's pick of the week is Style 2829 from the Dessy Collection. This flowing gown made with lux chiffon is both casual and elegant. The softly side pleated bodice and detail at front skirt is just the right accent to the otherwise simple silhouette, and the blouson bodice is flattering and on-trend.

We think it's the perfect dress for girls who like full-length dresses but don't want to look over-dressed. Most weddings are pretty semi-formal these days, but not everyone prefers wearing cocktail dresses! It's also a great choice as a bridal gown for a low-key wedding. A recent bride-to-be bought this dress in Ivory, citing her frustrating experience with ill-fitting poufy gowns on her petite figure.

Our "Pick of the Week" offers begin every Friday morning and run until the following Thursday 4pm EST. Use checkout code POTW for the 10% discount. Follow our blog, facebook page or twitter to get weekly alerts!

Purchase Any Style from Dessy Group!

This morning we have exciting news that will make it even easier for you to shop on our site.

Joielle's vision has always been to create an uncluttered online boutique with a carefully edited selection of dresses for a pleasant and comprehensive shopping experience. However, that meant we had to leave a lot of styles on the cutting room floor that were not featured on our product pages. Although they were still available for purchase, it meant that we would have to process the order by phone or paypal. And since bridesmaid dress designers often keep carryover styles from multiple prior seasons, hundreds of other styles were still in production!

But now for the great reveal! We have added an "Additional Styles" page for each dress line for styles that do not have their own individual product pages, categorized like so:

After you click on the category that your dress belongs to, select the style number you would like to purchase from the "Select Style" dropdown menu. The corresponding photo will pop up in the picture window. Select your color and size, and proceed with your order like any other product on our site. If I had a Staples EASY button, I would click it right... now.

Currently all Dessy Group lines (After Six, Alfred Sung, Cynthia Rowley, Dessy Collection, and Lela Rose) have the purchase additional styles option. Look out for Landa Designs Bridesmaid to be up soon. Happy shopping!

Pick of the Week: Landa Designs Chiffon V-Neck Dress with Flower Accent

Today's pick of the week is Style MC447 from Landa Designs' new Spring 2011 line. This affordable chiffon v-neck style is a great summer choice for a more conservative and sophisticated look, while the rosette accent at the waistband still keeps it cute and party-friendly.

We are seeing v-necks not only gain popularity in cocktail dresses, but in wedding gowns too. That's because they are pretty much universally complimentary on all body types. They flatter pear-shaped women, create the illusion of a smaller waist, and highlight existing curves for you lucky ones out there with an hourglass shape.

Our "Pick of the Week" offers begin every Friday morning and run until the following Thursday 4pm EST. Use checkout code POTW for the 10% discount. Follow our blog, facebook page or twitter to get weekly alerts!

Real Weddings: Heather and Dana

A backyard wedding with plenty of DIY elements, Heather and Dana created an absolutely enchanting and understated ceremony and reception in Newport Beach, California. With the bright sun, soft color palette, and a little post-processing magic, I felt transported back in time with photos that could have rolled from a 8mm camera film strip.

Heather's personal and customized touches were reflected in her bridal party. The bridesmaids wore mixed styles from Dessy's After Six line in the color Quartz with a Taupe sash. Since most of the styles did not actually come with the contrasting color option, they asked us if they could order extra sashes to create the two-tone look, which of course we happily obliged.

After Six Styles 6574, 6575, 6590, 6577, 6554

Having the wedding in a home allowed them to create separate areas like a photobooth room and... a french fry station!? Be still my heart!

The chill poolside setting was the perfect lounge area with strings of glass lanterns and floating candles.

Congrats Heather and Dana! May your marriage continue to be as homegrown and beautiful as your wedding day!

Pick of the Week: Lela Rose One Shoulder Dress with Cascading Ruffle

Today's pick of the week is Style LR140 from Lela Rose's new Spring line! When Lela burst onto the bridesmaid dress scene with mix and match styles for Jenna Bush's wedding, she confirmed the growing trend of mix and match styles in multiple colors and a prominent move away from strapless dresses. The best thing about Lela's new line is that many of her styles look like off-the-rack dresses at high-end designer department stores like Nordstrom's or Saks, but for a much better price. Plus you get to pick your own color!

This dress uses the matte side of renaissance satin (that's the flip side of the fabric), so you don't get the usual shiny look if you're hoping for something more subtle. One shoulder styles continue to show a strong presence in fashion, and we love the cascading ruffle that adds originality and fun. And there are also hidden side pockets!

Our "Pick of the Week" offers begin every Friday morning and run until the following Thursday 4pm EST. Use checkout code POTW for the 10% discount. Follow our blog, facebook page or twitter to get weekly alerts!

Real Weddings: Andrea and Galin

Living in New York City, it's easy to forget about the country's vast and gorgeous landscape. But getting pictures like these quickly remind us that purple mountain majesties and fruited plains really are out there!

Andrea and Galin were married last fall at the Silver State Baptist Youth Camp in Sedalia, Colorado, just south of Denver. Andrea's bridesmaids wore Alfred Sung Style D448 in the color Brownie, a bateau-style dupioni dress that continues to be our best seller.

The deep brown and vibrant pink color palette was a perfect match to the rustic and natural setting.

Silver State Baptist Youth Camp is a very special place for Andrea. Her dad has been the camp director for 17 years! One of her most memorable moments from the wedding day was standing outside of the tabernacle and having a heart-to-heart with him. It also meant a lot to Andrea and Galin that their pastor officiated the ceremony despite being in the midst of undergoing cancer treatments.

With a breathtaking backdrop of towering trees and a prance in the meadows, the wedding basked of natural charm and beauty.

Congratulations Andrea and Galin! May you be blessed with peace, joy, and a love that passes all understanding.
