Real Weddings: Meredith and Eric

This morning we're sharing some photos from newlywed Meredith's autumn wedding, whose unabashed nostalgia for her 80's childhood was the highlight of the reception.

Since the ceremony was held in a very open and large room, the minister, (who also happened to be the groom's grandfather) asked Eric lower his head so he would not see Meredith from afar. Her favorite moment was the look on his face when he raised his head and saw her for the first time!

Meredith's bridesmaids wore Alfred Sung's D448 in the color Brownie. She said that her favorite part of wedding planning was putting the bridesmaids' look together. With a particular vision in mind, "the dresses were PERFECT", and she actually hand-made the teal blue necklaces!

As a child of the 80's, Meredith made sure that music was reflected on the dance floor. Her bridesmaids had picked up some "vintage" clothing and accessories, and mid-way through the reception, they unveiled a wardrobe change and surprised Meredith during her favorite 80's tune!

We also really appreciate the kind words Meredith shared about Joielle. "Working with you guys was probably the easiest part of the wedding planning. THANK YOU for that."

Thank you Meredith for giving us a glimpse of your special day. The bright personalities of you and your bridesmaids really shine through!

Wedding Recap: Coordinating in Dallas

Back home, and I am welcomed by a hailstorm?! So much for the coming of spring. I am sorely missing the sunny 80 degree weather in Dallas from this past weekend. My friend Lisa's wedding was fabulous! Although the city may not seem like a "destination", traveling south was a lot of fun, not to mention an opportunity to shamelessly chow down on barbecue, fried chicken, and tacos. And it really is true when they say everything is bigger in Texas. From houses to soft drink cup sizes, the bang for your buck would make any New Yorker green with envy.

Lisa looked breathtaking of course, and her bridesmaids were decked out in Landa Designs Style M691 in Eggplant with a Chocolate sash. I'm going to wait for the photographer's photos because I know that my amateur photos simply will not do them justice! But here are a few sneak preview photos to pepper my experience.

As the ceremony coordinator, I thought that the Rosewood Crescent Hotel in downtown Dallas was a dream to work with. Their maitre'd was top notch and the venue was gorgeous! Here is an exterior of the glass window-lined Garden Room where the ceremony took place.

And an interior shot of the unique ceiling.

The reception room was also beautiful, with purple uplighting and gold banquet chairs. The cake was made with only dark purple ribbon lining the base of the tiers. Lisa had faith in me to "decorate" the cake by taking a few flowers from the ceremony decor and sticking them into the top tier to make a floral bouquet topper. It was actually quite fun and easy!

Having been asked to serve as day-of coordinator for quite a few of my friends' weddings, I've learned some important tips:

1. Preparation and knowledge is key. Download as much as you can from the bride. Print out schedules, cell phone #'s, etc... There is no such thing as too much information and people look to you to provide answers.

2. Anything that you suspect might be a problem at the rehearsal will most likely be a problem on the wedding day. So nip it in the bud. For example, during the rehearsal, we noticed that one of the lighters would need multiple clicks to finally start, so I picked up a new one that night and replaced it. No one wants to see a poor mother of the bride or groom struggling to light a candle.

3. The bride is always right. Yes, you may have a lot of experience in how to do things, but this isn't your day. It's your friend's once-in-a-lifetime moment. So unless it's a disastrous decision where you feel like you must intervene for her own good, just do what she wants!

For you organized, Type A brides out there, don't be surprised if your future engaged friends knock on your door and ask for help in this capacity too. Personally, I think it is a wonderful way to be closely involved in your friend's special day, and alleviate everyone's stress level!

Pick of the Week: Shirred Sweetheart Cotton Voile Dress with Pockets

Today's pick of the week is the adorable Dessy Collection Style 2823. With the weather warming up, it's definitely time to start thinking about what you'll be wearing this summer!

We have seen sweetheart necklines peaking in popularity lately, and the ruched knotted detailing makes this dress flattering and unique. Made of cotton voile fabric, it is lightweight and organic, a perfect choice for outdoor events. A cute little matching belt and hidden pockets in the side seams really seals the deal for me!

This dress is not only one of the most "re-wearable" bridesmaid dresses we have seen, it's also a great style to pick a bold color to wear as a day dress, whether you're strolling on the boardwalk or having brunch with your friends. Bright colors are in the summer fashion forecast, so take your pick from fun shades such as Firecracker, Tutti Frutti, Spa, and Marigold.

Heading South for the Spring

Today I'm flying off to Dallas, TX for a friend's wedding. And since Dallas also happens to be the hometown of Lela Rose, what better opportunity to highlight some more of her dresses!

This season's editorial photo shoot took its theme from Hans Christian Andersen's fairytale "The Princess and the Pea". We love that Lela Rose continues to expand her bridesmaid line with affordable dresses that take fashion risks but stay rooted in traditional romantic elements.

Lela Rose has added a few more fun styles coming down the pipeline for the Fall 2011 season, and we'll be sure to give you a sneak peek from Bridal Market in April!

Pick of the Week: Landa Social Occasions Taffeta Cap-Sleeved Dress with Bolero Jacket

Today we're going to delve into the social occasion realm for our pick of the week! Landa Designs' Social Occasion is a great line of dresses, suits, and gowns, many of which are geared toward Mothers of the Bride (and groom!).

We particularly love Style S284 because it is a cute but age-appropriate cap-sleeved dress with a bolero jacket. The tea length skirt is semi-formal, while the luxurious taffeta fabric keeps it upscale. It is the perfect dress for a day wedding, rehearsal dinner, or day-after brunch.

Proud Recipient of WeddingWire's 2011 Bride's Choice Awards

We're excited to announce that Joielle is a winner of WeddingWire's 2011 Bride's Choice Awards! So much so, in fact, that we've re-designed the footer of our website to accommodate the nifty little award badge they gave us to display.

The award recognizes the top local wedding professionals from the WeddingWire network that demonstrate excellence in quality, service, responsiveness and professionalism. Unlike other awards in which winners are selected by the organization, this award is determined by recent reviews and extensive surveys from over 750,000 newlyweds. The 2011 award recipients represent the top five percent of WeddingWire's vendor community, which consists of over 200,000 local wedding professionals throughout the US and Canada.

We know that so much of what makes a wedding vendor successful is dependent on word-of-mouth by previous customers. It means so much to us whenever a customer personally tells us that they loved our service and recommend our site to their friends. Or when a girl who purchased a bridesmaid dress from us in the past is now engaged and chooses Joielle to dress her own bridal party. Thank you all for your support!

If you've been happy with your experience with Joielle, please do us a huge favor and leave a review on our WeddingWire page. It only takes a few minutes! WeddingWire also gives you a small gift if you write 5 reviews about your various vendors, so how's that for an added incentive?

Pick of the Week: After Six Satin Dress with Skinny Belt and Full Skirt

We've got springtime on our mind even though it's been quite chilly in NYC this week, so today's pick is After Six's Style 6600, a matte satin cocktail dress in a classically cut style. Shown in Nantucket print, this dress has a trendy skinny belt with a round buckle, and hidden side pockets in a full skirt. It's getting hard to remember that pockets only recently made a comeback because they now feel like a necessity!

Put on a necklace and some slingbacks like this model, and you're ready to go to a day wedding, a bridal shower, or that fancy corporate summer picnic where you have to hobnob with upper management. This dress is also available in all of Dessy's matte satin color options and Dessy's Cape Cod, Melrose and Palm Beach prints.

Nothing like floral prints to get us in the mood for warm weather!

Our "Pick of the Week" offers begin every Friday morning and run until the following Thursday 4pm EST. Use checkout code POTW for the 10% discount. Follow our blog, facebook page or twitter to get weekly alerts!

Real Weddings: Shelley and Devin

Today we are featuring a wedding from the bayou state of Louisiana! With a theme of casual elegance, the wedding was kept within the set 12k budget, which as all brides know, is no easy feat, regardless of how big or small your budget is! Shelley and Devin carefully negotiated every expense and were flexible and creative to achieve their goal.

The bride and groom decided to see each other before the wedding for a "First Sighting" photo session, which turned out to be Shelley's favorite moment of the day. "We got some awesome pics and I loved having that time with him. It was very special and seemed to make the rest of the day go by smoothly."

The wedding party arrived on a blue trolley to the ceremony site, which took place in the courtyard where Shelley and Devin first met, Town Square at Perkins Rowe.

The bridesmaids wore Alfred Sung's Style D440 in Black with pearl necklaces and light pink and yellow bouquets. Gotta love those peep toe heels too!

Guests then enjoyed an indoor/outdoor cocktail reception at a local restaurant with a live jazz band. The vintage Hollywood elements combined with southern charm created a warm and dreamy atmosphere.

Congrats Shelley and Devin! We hope your marriage has many more special moments and that your lives together will sail as smoothly as jazz.
