Bridal Market Giveaway Winners!

The two lucky winners for our Spring Bridal Market giveaway package are...

Any idea when the Alfred Sung Fall 2011 bridesmaid line will be available? I love the pink dress (in the picture with the junior bridesmaid dress) with the cap sleeves!

I think all of those trends are going to be sticking around for a while, it seems several of the weddings I've gone to within the last year each incorporated those trends....big bow on the bride's gown, another with shimmer bridesmaids dresses, and a bride with a big hat instead of a veil! Apparently I have some fashion forward friends! Love all the new trends, but I think for my own wedding I'm going with all classic details.

Thanks to everyone who participated! Don't forget to follow us on facebook and twitter, and check back for future giveaways!

Pick of the Week: Empire Dress with Tulip Skirt

Today's pick of the week is this adorable tulip skirt number in Dessy's After Six collection! Style 6578 is a strapless dress with a matte satin bodice and soft nu-georgette skirt.

If you have a busy itinerary of summer weddings coming up, wouldn't be nice to have a casual yet appropriately formal dress to rely on, especially if you'll be attending an even in hot and sticky August? The unique cut on this dress will not only keep you cool and comfortable, but also add a twist of style to a classic and simple design.

And for those of you who have recently found out that you're expecting, we can easily see this as a perfect maternity option for the second trimester when your baby bump is starting to show. We recommend ordering at least 1 size up from your current bust size.

Real Weddings: Gina and Patrick

Today we're excited to feature a West coast wedding from the beautiful city of Seattle, Washington! Gina and Patrick were married last September at St Benedict's Church, followed by a reception at St. Demetrios Hall. With a muted color palette for her bridal party, the bouquets really popped against the luscious green backdrop. All the rain finally does pay off in the summer season for Seattleites.

The bridesmaids wore a mix of After Six styles in the color Cappuccino.

"The bridesmaids dresses turned out wonderful!! We were very happy with our choice to go with Joielle. "

After Six 6506, 6553, 6511, 6576, 6506

Gina's favorite moment was right before she saw Patrick for the first time.

"I remember telling my little sister that it felt like when we were kids and on Christmas we had to sit at the top of the stairs waiting until our parents got coffee and got their cameras ready before we could come sprinting down the stairs to see what Santa brought us. I was just giddy with excitement and wanted to keep asking "can I go yet? can I?" I was so excited to start that special day with Patrick!"

Here is a shot of her "giddy" moment.

The flowers in their centerpieces were all from the Pike Place in downtown Seattle. What a great idea to pick up fresh flowers from local vendors! When I visited to Seattle a few years ago, I remember being completely enthralled by the vast array of wildflowers at the market.

Between the ceremony and reception, Gina and Patrick organized a scavenger hunt around the neighborhood for their guests. Patrick designed custom sneakers for them to participate too. Love the pink and baby blue!

And finally the "money shot", which Gina's mom calls their "Get Smart" spy pose. How can you not love this adorable couple?

Gina couldn't say enough about how much fun wedding planning was for her. She saw it as an opportunity to have shared experiences with family and friends. "We were blessed to have extra family and friends time, and seeing how much these people loved us and wanted to be there to help was wonderful!" To top if off, their wedding day was also Gina's sister's 21st birthday, so they surprised her with a birthday cake and song at the end of the reception.

Thanks Gina and Patrick for sharing all the fun and excitement from your wedding day. May you always be a ray of sunshine for each other and for your dear family and friends!

April Showers Bring Another Bridal Market Giveaway!

Julie and I had another enjoyable weekend at Bridal Market previewing the Fall 2011 line-up and scoping out potential new additions to our site. Market in April is always a little quieter, but the designers were clearly hard at work experimenting with new ideas and taking some fashion risks! We loved seeing more styles in Dessy Group's Junior Bridesmaid line, which we will be adding to our site in a few days!

Here, an Alfred Sung junior bridesmaid dress is paired with one of the new Fall 2011 styles in dupioni fabric. Super cute! We also noticed a few trends that are leaning towards a flair for the dramatic. Time will tell if any of these will pique the interest of brides!

Fabric Bow Accents

Previously relegated to a shoulder or back, the bow is now taking front and center stage. Amsale makes a bold statement with an exaggerated bow detail on this silk dress, and Dessy's upcoming new Social Bridesmaid line will carry this satin style with a matching or contrasting bow option.

Bold Headpieces

It was refreshing to see some whimsical headpieces used to spice up runway shows. One of our designers, Malis Henderson also has picked up on this trend, creating large statement headpieces in different tulle fabrics as well as a beige hat veil.

Shimmer Satin

Lighter and softer than taffeta, this fabric is quickly moving up the ranks as a designer's new favorite material to work with. Shimmer satin is perfect if you want more of an iridescent shine, while still keeping a subtle look. It's sleek and clean, and perfect for an evening wedding. Above is a sneak peek of two styles from Landa Designs.

Do you think any of these trends have potential? Leave a comment on our blog or facebook page, or re-tweet this post from @shopjoielle, and you'll be entered into our drawing for a slew of awesome goodies we snagged at Market, which includes:

- Martha Stewart Weddings, Brides, Bride & Bloom, and Get Married magazines.
- "The Knot" aluminum water bottle and small notebook
- Dessy Group umbrella
- CHI finishing hair spray and nail polish

This contest will run through April 20th (next Wednesday). Two winners will be chosen through a random number generator. Good luck!

Real Weddings: Teri and Jeff

Today's featured photos come from newlywed Teri, whose wedding was a reflection of the loving sentiment not only between the bride and groom but with their whole community of family and friends!

The ceremony took place at St. Ursula's church where Teri's parents were married almost 35 years ago, and the reception was held at DeSales University, where Jeff and Teri met.

Saying that Teri was a resourceful bride is an understatement! She created the invitations, programs, church pew cones, and so many little things you might not even realize, like the escort cards and photo booth props. She also made hair flowers for herself and the bridesmaids.

The bridal party wore mix and match satin dresses by Dessy Collection and After Six in the colors Espresso and Cappuccino.

After Six 6553, Dessy 2780, Dessy 2781

Ready, set....

Teri also incorporated green, ivory and purple into her color palette. Did you notice her green wedding shoes? And this beautiful display of framed photos of their engagement photos and wedding pictures of parents and grandparents was made by her dad.

Jeff's aunt baked an apple spiced wedding cake with buttercream icing, and their friends all contributed to a dessert buffet. And yes, Teri created this personalized cake topper too. To think that I thought I was an accomplished DIY-er by making my wedding invitations with a gocco machine. This talented family puts me to shame!

Teri's favorite part of wedding planning was spending time with her mom and two sisters, who were also part of her bridal party. "They are my best friends and mean more than the world to me." Here's a shot of them hitting the dance floor. In Teri's words, "My sisters and I really like to cut a rug!"

For the last song of the evening, "We danced to Billy Joel's Piano Man and all of our guests formed a huge circle around us while my groom twirled me around". It was Teri's favorite wedding moment.

Last but not least, the photo booth!

And some more kind feedback that encourages us to keep going the extra mile for our customers!

It was fabulous working with you. I recommend you to all of my friends that have gotten engaged and I will continue to in the future. You were very helpful and very quick to respond to any questions/concerns that I had. Also, the personal note to my bridesmaids was very thoughtful and greatly appreciated. Thanks for all of your help! :)

Thank you Teri and Jeff for sharing your story and making your wedding come alive in such a heartfelt way for us. May the warmth and joy so apparent on your special day stay with you always.

Pick of the Week: High-neck Chiffon Dress with Hand-worked Rosettes

Today's pick of the week is one of Lela Rose's original bridesmaid designs, Style LR100.

This halter style dress is made of delicate crinkle chiffon fabric with a matte satin belt. The peek-a-boo back is perfect to stay cool for upcoming outdoor summer events. Every time I receive a dress for one our customers, I still gush over the exquisite hand-worked rosettes, which are a distinct Lela Rose signature. The palette available in crinkle chiffon has been expanded to 27 colors this year, and swatches are available for purchase here.

I still remember when Julie and I first saw this dress in person. We were incredibly impressed with the craftsmanship, quality of fabric, and attention to small details. It truly is a designer dress in every sense of the word.

And since the Lela Rose Bridesmaid line is not as widely available as other Dessy Group lines, Joielle has started carrying sample loaners for select styles. We think it would be a pity if brides felt uncomfortable ordering the dress just because they did not see one in person! Please contact us directly for the details of our loaner program.

Our "Pick of the Week" offers begin every Friday and run until the following Thursday 4pm EST. Use checkout code POTW for the 10% discount. Follow our blog, facebook page or twitter to get weekly alerts!
