The Little White Dress

We all have our little black dress, aka LBD, as a go-to item in our closet, but with summer heating up, it's time to hop on the latest trend among celebrities... the LWD!

The little white dress is not just great in warm weather, it's also the ideal backdrop to highlight delicate and subtle elements such as lace and embroidery. Sofia Vergara recently stepped out in this gorgeous number, which happens to be from Marchesa's bridal line!

The LWD is a perfect look for a bride who never envisioned herself in a long poufy ballgown or is having a city courthouse wedding. You can also switch out of your long dress into a short white dress for dancing at the reception, or as a final wardrobe change when your guests send you off at the end of the evening.

But white dresses are not just for brides! So take the plunge and pick out something that will really have you standing out from the crowd. Here are some of our favorites.

Real Weddings: Lauren and Jakub

When we received photos from Lauren and Jakub, we could instantly feel the excitement they had in celebrating the union of two very different cultures. Married in Alexandria, VA, the ceremony and reception took place at George Washington's River Farm. Working with the lovely venue was Lauren's favorite part of planning the wedding. It was only the second place that they visited, but they were immediately won over by the peaceful landscape and historical feel.

The weather held up despite potential forecast of rain, and they enjoyed a beautiful outdoor wedding. Since Lauren is a Filipino-American from Hawaii and Jakub is from Poland, they had readings in Polish and English.

Lauren's bridesmaids wore a mix of different Alfred Sung styles in the color Quarry. Grey and yellow continues to be a very popular color palette for weddings, and Lauren added in a pop of blue with her hydrangea bouquet.

Since the groomsmen were very tall, Lauren and her sister thought it would be a cute idea to have the guys carry the girls into the reception.

"It was a great time and everyone enjoyed it! The cutest moment was when the ring bearer piggy backed the flower girl!"

Lauren and Jakub's family and friends came from all over the US including Hawaii, as well as England, Poland and Germany. Their first dance included the "Filipino money dance", where the crowd comes in and places bills on each other and it has to be picked up with the bride or groom's mouth. Lauren's mother surprised them by dancing the hula along with her hula group.

Also, a few groomsmen from Poland surprised them with Polish singing traditions throughout dinner, singing louder and louder to get them to kiss!

Congratulations Lauren and Jakub! May you continue to celebrate your very different backgrounds and cultures as you build a joyful life as one.

Real Weddings: Erin and Frank

Today's photos are from bride Erin, who planned her North Carolina wedding long distance from Florida. (kudos to her!) The autumn wedding took place on a farm called Hidden River in Black Mountain. They knew it was a risky time for an outdoor wedding but took their chances. It snowed during the rehearsal, but the sun peeked out and warmed things up a little bit on their wedding day. Erin didn't feel the cold at all and felt the ceremony was perfect!

Erin's bridesmaids wore a mix of Alfred Sung styles in different color pinks. Because of the cold weather, they had to improvise and add sweaters and stockings, but Erin was still happy with the overall look.

The girls traveled from all over the country: New York, Florida, California and Ohio. Despite the distance, they were amazingly supportive through everything.

Afterward, guests got busy dancing, which also helped them to keep warm! It never occurred to me that it would be possible to do a tented reception in cold weather, but there were plenty of heaters, plus a bonfire to huddle around.

Erin and Frank made a homemade photobooth, where people took pictures and left the bride and groom messages.

Frank also made adorable Bride and Groom signs. What a crafty and handy husband! The couple tried to be as DIY as possible and made all of the decor and favors themselves.

Congrats Erin and Frank! The love and care you put in your wedding was a delight to see. We wish you all the best in your life together!

Sticking with what Dessy does best, we love that this dress relies on the classic strapless cocktail length style, yet continues to evolve. The asymmetrical bodice is a unique look, not to mention a great choice for girls who are pear shaped and want a dress that can help balance their figure.

Dresses with sleeves done well are surely hard to find, and this little number is your answer! The Alfred Sung line continues to hit it out of the park with styles that are modern and fresh, yet still hearken to nostalgia of the fashion past. Available in both Peau de Soie and Dupioni fabrics.

Give and Take Away: Dessy Group Discontinued Styles

In just a few short days, we will start rolling out the new Fall 2011 dress styles for Dessy Collection, After Six, Alfred Sung, Lela Rose, and Landa Designs. And it gets better! We will be adding Dessy's new Social Occasion, additional Malis Henderson accessories and two exciting new greeting card designers, so make sure to check back later this week! Here's a sneak peek:

It's also time to say goodbye to some older styles. Dessy Group has just released their list of styles that will be discontinued at the end of July, which we have included below.

The biggest announcement is the end of the Cynthia Rowley bridesmaid line. We will miss her dresses, which brought a taste of high fashion into the wedding industry. The one shoulder 8015 and cotton sateen 8009 are quite popular, and we are sad to see them go.

That being said, it's not too late to pick these dresses for your wedding party. They will remain available for purchase on our site until July 30th. So you still have 2 months to decide!
