Trendspotting at Bridal Market Spring 2012

Bridal Fashion Week came and went so quickly, but don't worry, we haven't forgotten to share our style finds and giveaway of Bridal Market goodies!

The hands-down favorite trend this year is chiffon fabric. We saw many bridesmaid lines devoted entirely to chiffon, creating free-flowing and light dresses that are a clear move away from the traditional satin gowns. In today's economy, there's little room to buy the "extras", so picking a bridesmaid dress with rewearability can go a long way in easing your bridesmaids' budgets. We know the running joke of actually wearing a bridesmaid dress again, but this Market made a believer out of us and hopefully you'll feel the same way too when we unveil the new styles in a few short months.

Another fabric that has been dominating bridal gowns and is now creeping into bridesmaid dresses? Lace! We were surprised too, but some of the designers we spoke to are convinced that it's the next big thing.

Would you dress your party in lace bridesmaid dresses? Comment on our blog or facebook page and you'll be entered to win this selection of magazines and cosmetics plus a one year subscription to Martha Stewart Weddings! This contest will run through November 4th (next Friday). Two winners will be chosen through a random number generator. Good luck!

Real Weddings Round-Up

It's always a fun surprise to discover how each of the weddings we work with end up having such distinct styles. Our customers continue to send us amazing pictures and we can barely keep up on our blog!

All the way from Munich, Germany, bridesmaid Stephanie sent us photos the bridal party took at Nymphenburg Palace. The girls wore mixed Landa Designs styles in shades of blue and turquoise.

Newlyweds Kayla and Patrick shared photos from their wedding in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The ceremony took place at Holy Spirit Catholic Church followed by a reception at the Alabama Museum of Natural History in Smith Hall, University of Alabama.

The bridesmaids wore Alfred Sung's Ruffle Halter Dress, Style D470, in Electric Blue, which is quickly becoming one of our most popular styles. We love that Kayla went with more unconventional orchid bouquets, which complement this style for a unique and fresh look.

Finally, some highlights of yesterday's Style Me Pretty post featuring one of our bridal parties wearing Lela Rose dresses in Buttercup. The serene, vintage glow makes me miss summertime already.

All Dressed in White

Everyone knows the rule of etiquette that guests should never wear white to a wedding. But what about white bridesmaid dresses? We saw it in none other than the royal event of the year, where Pippa Middleton almost stole the show with her plunging cowl-neck gown.

And more recently, another "celebrity" wedding, Kim Kardashian's black and white themed bash.

Featured on Style Me Pretty, this bridal party is wearing our Lela Rose's Style LR120 in the color Ivory.

You can also pair a black sash with your bridesmaid gown to create a classy and simple look.

Time will tell if white becomes more mainstream like black bridesmaid dresses. If you're ready to buck tradition, here are some of our lovely styles that can all be ordered in white or ivory.

Real Weddings: Grace and Tim

Today's real wedding photos are from Grace and Tim, who were married this past May at Park Street Church, a historic landmark built in 1809 across from the Boston Common, followed by a reception at The Downtown Harvard Club. Grace is one of my dear college friends who had been working on the other side of the world in Shanghai for many years. Her wedding marked a joyous welcome back to the States, but not without some bumps along the way!

The week before the wedding I came down with a severe case of bronchitis, and I couldn't stop coughing. My mom and several friends came early to help us with wedding preparations, since I was in really bad shape. My husband Tim was amazing and did so much that week. Through their TLC, prayers, and help, I woke on the morning of our wedding without a cough, and with a deep sense of joy and peace about everything.

Grace's favorite moment of the day was walking down the aisle and seeing all of their loved ones in one place. She said she was so happy that she cried. (Not a surprise to me of course).

The bridesmaids were asked to pick their own style dress from the Alfred Sung collection in Seaside dupioni, paired with ivory pashminas. Springtime is still chilly in Boston!

When they first got engaged, Grace sent an email to a handful of recently married good friends, asking for advice on engagement and wedding planning. She was surprised to receive many long and thoughtful responses, covering everything from how much time to budget for getting ready, to finances, to how to ask others to help. Even before the wedding and especially on the day of, Grace was touched by their kindness and helpfulness.

Congratulations Grace and Tim! The love and happiness that overflowed on your wedding day is just the start of a beautiful and joyous life together.
